Then, it will continue to use that information to avoid obstacles. During our testing it was able to avoid getting stuck on power cords, long curtains and even dog toys. It isn't perfect though and occasionally encountered obstacles like tangled wires or the odd book or toy.

You can control the S7 Max Ultra via its smartphone app, and that's where you'll find all of the advanced features that set it apart from other robotic vacuum self emptying vacuums and mops. There are room-specific mopping and cleaning options as well as a schedule planner and power strength options for mopping and vacuuming. You can also connect the S7 Max Ultra with Google Assistant or Amazon Alexa to create a smart home. The wide range of features means the S7 Max Ultra can do nearly everything a standard robot vacuum does, but at less than half the price.

The S7 Max Ultra vacuuming is amazing. It did a fantastic job at removing pet fur, dirt, and other debris, both on hard and carpet floors. Its automatic dust bin-emptying feature performed flawlessly during our tests, which was very reassuring. It also boasts a 5100 Pa HyperForce suction rating, which is considerably higher than the 2,500Pa performance of the S6 MaxV and S7.

The S7 Max Ultra mopping performance was also excellent, but not the best. It utilized the special microfiber mop pad that absorbs liquids and employs sonic vibrating technology to scrub floors up to 3000 times per minute, which was a bit faster than the X1 Omni's circular pads that rotate at 180 revolutions per minute. The S7 Max Ultra's ReactiveAI 2.0 obstruction recognition system is very good. During our tests, it didn't get stuck on anything and stayed clear of curtains, power cords and other potential obstructions 100% of the time.

2. Narwal Freo

Vaccuming and mopping your floors is one of those chores that we all hate, but are essential for maintaining a tidy home. It's messy, and often stinky task that can be difficult to finish, since it involves dustbins, dirty water and the necessity to ensure that hair or debris doesn't clog the brushes or traps. Robots that mop and vacuum are becoming very popular. Many of these devices require you to empty the dustbin and wash and rinse mop pads manually. This can be a hassle particularly if you have to do this a few times during the cleaning process or after each cleaning session. We're glad to see that certain manufacturers are introducing self emptying robot vacuum-emptying robots that make this task much simpler.

The Narwal Freo is the latest addition to this category of robotic cleaners and it comes with a host of new software, sensor, and hardware improvements engineered to keep it at the top of its game. This includes the patent-pending DirtSense technology and Smart-Swing feature, which both help to detect the surface being cleaned and automatically adjusts the cleaning mode depending on the kind of floor it is. The Freo also detects dirt and automatically cleans mops when they're full. This increases the efficiency of subsequent cleaning sessions since it doesn't return to soiled areas.

The Freo is also a step up from its predecessor in that it is operated directly from the touchscreen LCD at its base station. This is in addition to the smartphone app. This is a first in robot vacuum and mop and is definitely a welcomed change if you'd rather skip the hassle of using the app. You can even adjust the route during a session using the controls on the LCD screen. You can also ensure that the robot is doing what you want it to accomplish.

The Narwal Freo is also quiet when in suction mode, with a noise level of only 63dB. The Freo's maintenance process is not completely hands-free however. You will need to clean the main brush roll as well as the side brushes regularly.

3. Ecovacs Deebot T9+

The Ecovacs Deebot T9+ is available at The Good Guys (for $1279) and is one of the most advanced self-emptying robots that mop and Robotic Vacuum Self Emptying vacuum sets. It is capable of mapping out your home, vacuuming and mopping, while spotting and staying clear of obstacles. It can even release an air freshener which is a neat touch.

The app creates a digital map of your house that you can use to tidy. It's easy to install. The app allows you to select specific rooms or areas that need to be cleaned. You can also select the time that you want to begin cleaning so that your floors get cleaned while you're asleep or away.

In our tests in our tests, the T9+ was awe-inspiring in its ability to navigate obstacles. However, it has a tendency to take a few errands around the house, which usually meant it ended in the exact location it had begun cleaning just minutes earlier. It wasn't often however enough to be noticed.

The T9+ comes complete with a variety of accessories like the robot cleaner, a docking-station and an automatic emptying station. The mopping unit, as well as a replacement dustbin are sold separately.

I found it easy to control the Combo j7+ from the mobile application, which is intuitive and well designed. It works with Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa so you can begin a cleaning by voice. The only drawback was the tiny water tank of the Combo J7+, which means you must refill it regularly or limit its cleaning to smaller areas and run it more often in eco-mode.

The Combo j7+ has a tiny dust bin which you have to empty manually. The Combo mop pads are also less effective than other brands. This is a pity, because this robot is otherwise a great machine.
