1. iRobot s8

This smart robot mop and Vacuum mop cleaner robot combo is a great choice for many households. It has a great navigation system that includes GPS and laser sensors. It also comes with numerous features and control options that can be accessed through the app. It also has a handy feature that lets you create cleaning zones in areas that require more attention, and also to create Keep Out zones in areas you don't wish it to go. As with all Roomba devices, it receives new software updates that make it better over time.

It's expensive but it's also among the most advanced robot vacuums ZDNet has evaluated. It comes with a powerful battery that can clean an entire home in less than two hours, and it can switch between vacuuming and mopping with the press of one button. And unlike other self-emptying robotics that require you to empty the trash bin after each run, it automatically empties into a larger waste container above its charging dock.

It also has many other options, like intelligent obstacle avoidance that uses cameras in conjunction with processor-powered smarts to identify obstacles. It's not often tripped or stuck during a cleaning process. In my tests, it was the best at avoiding objects such as power cables. However, it isn't as reliable at detecting pet waste or other hazards.

2. Eufy RoboVac Hybrid X8

While Anker-owned Eufy has made a name for itself in the field of low-cost robot vacuums, it's never offered an all-in-one model which can also mop. The X8 Hybrid is a new model that comes with a variety of advanced features, and is able to compete with more expensive models.

The laser navigation is the primary selling point of this machine. The X8 uses laser mapping technology that is more precise than the previous Eufy devices. It also takes significantly less time to create a comprehensive picture of your living space and also stores multiple maps, which is great for multi-floor homes.

The X8 is still a good vacuum on bare floors that can carry debris under its side brushes and into its 400ml dust bin with ease. The X8's tyres, despite their circular shape, are very efficient at grabbing corners and edges. It's not the best cat litter eater, however as our tests show it only removes about 90 percent of the fur off hard floors.

The basic mopping mode utilizes the same reservoir of water as the vacuuming mode. While this is a good option for spills that aren't too big, you can't regulate the amount of water it is using and this will reduce its effectiveness when dealing with more severe staining. However, it does an excellent job of removing pet hair, with a better pickup rate than the Roborock S7.

3. Miele RX2

Miele's RX2 robotic vacuum is known for its quiet, effective appliances. It is a stunning design, excellent navigation and a powerful cleaning power. There are a few niggles in its operation, which prevent it from being considered the top smart robot vacuum.

Similar to the latest models of iRobot like the RX2 features a dual-sensor mapping system that uses a LIDAR sensor to map out the space and two 3D scanning cameras that can detect and avoid obstacles (like furniture legs or pet waste) in real-time. Once mapped the app allows you to create virtual no-go zones as well as preferred areas that the robot will automatically clean. You can also initiate cleaning manually or change the cleaning mode, view a live feed from the onboard cameras and more from the main screen.

The RX2 has superior sensors that can identify furniture and other obstructions in a flash. The suction and sweeping power are top-notch and cleans up surface debris from carpets with medium piles and dust in bare floors. But it's not the most agile robot on the market. It's not the best climber, and it has problems with transition strips made of steel.

Some people buy a robot vacuum for the ease of setting up a schedule using an app and not thinking about it for weeks at a time. It's crucial that a robot can get the job done and that's the reason why our ZDNet staff examined and reviewed a few of the most popular models to help you choose the best one for your home.

4. Shark ION

This budget robot is just like your standard robot, however it's a step up in performance and features. Its smart mapping system generates 3D and 2D maps of your home and uses those to avoid obstacles and navigate. The controls are simpler than the competitors. There's a clean button at the top, and you can either start it with the app or by voice commands using Alexa or Google Assistant. You can also schedule daily or weekly cleanings, designate no-go zones, and look up its cleaning history. Ion is covered in a smart dark gray plastic that feels and looks attractive in your home. Its rear dustbin is easily accessible for emptying, and removing the filters is also a breeze.

5. Eufy 11S

Eufy 11S is a good option for those looking for a vacuum cleaner that is easy to use and has no frills at a cost that is low. The model isn't equipped with smart features such as Alexa integration and digital mapping found in higher-end models. If you do not need these features, you could save money.

This robot is easy to use and set up. It doesn't require smartphone application or Wi-Fi pairing. However it does come with an remote control that lets you choose between different modes and alter the suction level. You can also manually assign the robotvac to a cleaning schedule.

In our tests, we discovered that the 11S was extremely efficient in cleaning dirt and fur from carpets with low pile and hard floors. Its slim profile helped it reach under furniture and other items that more bulkier robots couldn't reach. Like other robots, the 11S will be able to suck up objects, such as cords drawstrings on hoodies and cat toys. We really like the 980 because it uses its iAdapt2.0 navigation sensors and its visual simultaneity localisation and mapping (or vSLAM), to memorise your home's floor plan. It will use this data to create a consistent, efficient cleaning path in every cycle. The result is cleaner floors and a more efficient vacuum cleaner than the majority of high-end robots.

Other features of the 980 include dual multi-surface brushes that grab dirt on hard floors and carpets and the spinning brush that sweeps debris into the robotic vacuum’s bin. Its floor tracking sensor assists in navigating through furniture, along edges and on stairs. Cliff Detect prevents the Roomba from falling. It also automatically returns to the base station for simple charging between sessions. Although the 980's battery life and bin size aren't quite as impressive as other robot vacuums, it's a reliable and solid machine that will keep your floors spotless for hours on end.
