1. iRobot Roomba 11S

The 11S is a cheaper self-emptying robotic vacuum cleaner that many people seem to like. It is good at moving under furniture and is a good option for people with hard floors or who do a lot of cleaning. The suction is weaker than our top picks, but it's still able to do the job. It also has a huge dirt bin and a battery which lasts for over an hour. The app lets you schedule your daily cleaning or select a particular room. It's also possible to map out your home, which can assist in avoiding areas you don't want to visit.

The app is easy to use and has a clear layout. It's not a full-featured app, but it is easy to use and allows you to keep track of the robot's activity. It also comes with an informative tutorial that can guide you through the basics.

Its cleaning pattern doesn't always look like logical - at times it is straight lines, while other times it seeks out the edges of the room - however, Bounce Navigation ensures your entire floor is kept clean. The iRobot Roomba 694 is more robust, easier to maintain, has lower ongoing costs, and takes less time to charge. It also has a larger dustbin and performs better on all types of surfaces, and it can climb over low-lying obstructions (like electrical cords) more easily.

The eufy RoboVac 11S makes an excellent choice for regular vacuuming. It shares a similar design to our top pick and is good in removing smaller and fine dust from hard floors. It is able to do a great job on carpets with a medium or low pile. Similar to the Roomba by iRobot Roomba, it has a huge dirt compartment and uses BoostIQ to automatically adjust suction power. It comes with a user-friendly remote control and you can schedule daily cleanings using the app. The battery can last for around an hour and the dustbin is able to be empty without taking it from the dock.

2. Roborock S7 maxV Ultra

The Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra is an excellent robot vacuum and mop, with a surprising array of automation features. It comes in three options that include the basic S7, the S7 MaxV Plus and the S7 MaxV Ultra. Only the latter has an Empty Wash Fill Dock (or an alternative Auto-Empty Dock). These docks allow the robot to return to its base after a cleaning session and empty the debris it has collected into a dust bag or reservoir, drain the dirty water tank and clean its mopping pad.

The S7's sensors work to avoid obstacles and clean the floors. It can recognize flooring types and save a floor map for rooms and zones. It can even detect dirt levels. It can also plan and conduct spot cleaning sessions. It performed well in our standard tests, though it couldn't quite match the iRobot Roomba j7+ in our carpet deep clean test.

You can program the S7 with the companion app to run a cleansing cycle according to your schedule. You can set a date, time, day, or week and select from several cleaning modes, such as eco, automatic, and deep clean. You can also decide whether the robot will stop if its power is exhausted or if it encounters an obstruction.

You can still use the S7 even if you don't have an iPhone by connecting an charging dock to the remote control. The controls are difficult initially however they are very effective once you get used to them. The power button also functions as an 'Cleaning' button and the Spot Clean button instructs the robot to clean the area around itself. The "Spot Clean" button also triggers the child lock.

Shark's robot vacuums aren't as well-known as those from iRobot or Roborock. But our hands-on tests have shown that this model is one of the most efficient self-emptying vacuums that are available. We didn't discover that any of the modes had a significant impact in cleaning performance.

The IQ XL will automatically empty the dustbin at the end of a cleaning cycle into the base, which will self-empty. It is robust, has lower maintenance requirements, is able to charge lower recurring costs, charges faster, while offering similar battery performance, and offers far more advanced automation features like no-go zones and the capability to choose specific rooms to keep clean.

iRobot J7+

This robot vac/mop combination is a rare beast, since it does both jobs extremely efficiently. iRobot Combo j7+ has all the features and smarts of its j7 equivalent, including LiDAR map and self-emptying. It also comes with additional features for vacuuming and mopping.

The j7+ utilizes the latest acoustic sensor technology to identify the floor type and allows it to clean or mop the area in its first attempt. This information can also be used to prioritize cleaning rooms with carpets or rugs versus those with hard flooring.

Like many robotic vacuum self emptying vacuums, the j7+ is quiet while it's running. It's quieter when mopping. The maximum reading of 64db on our decibel scale is similar to office chatter.

It's easy to set the schedule for cleaning and change the way that the j7+ operates when its dust canister is full. The j7+ is also controlled by voice assistants like Alexa, Google Assistant and other. to make it hands-free. Additionally, the app allows you to create and view maps of your home.

In our tests, the J7+ was a solid performer on both hard and carpeted floors, cleaning most of the dirt we threw at it. It isn't able to deal with pet hair, large debris and sand. However, it is able to remove them with a bit more effort. It also has decent navigation capabilities and a set of cliff sensors to stop it from falling down stairs or getting stuck on furniture legs.

We did notice some minor issues with the j7+, mainly that it can get caught on rugs and cords and that it doesn't always turn off its mopping once it's finished vacuuming. In all other respects, it's an excellent model that ticks all the right boxes.

iRobot J7+ is one of the top auto-emptying systems we've ever tested. It drops its 14oz/0.4-liter dust canister in the base station, where it automatically emptys for you. This reduces the amount of garbage you must dispose of. It is only necessary to change the dust disposal bag at the dock every 60 days, depending on the frequency you use the J7+.
