The precautions

Inform patients that AMBIEN can cause complex sleep behaviors (e.g. sleepwalking, speaking, driving, or preparing for and eating food) and that injuries of a serious nature and death have occurred during these instances. AMBIEN is best taken at night before going to sleep. Patients should rest for eight hours prior to engaging in activities that require complete alertness.

Inform patients that AMBIEN can cause drowsiness, dizziness, reduced consciousness and blurred/double vision which could increase the risk for falls among older people. Patients must be advised to refrain from activities that require alertness until they're fully awake. They should also not operate vehicles or operate machinery after taking AMBIEN.

Women must be aware that AMBIEN isn't recommended during breastfeeding since the drug zolpidem may pass into breast milk, creating respiratory depression. (See the Use for Specific populations). AMBIEN should not be prescribed to children.
